[ワシントン１１日ロイター] - 米教育省は１１日、職員の約半数を２１日付で一時帰休にすると発表した。トランプ米大統領が全ての政府機関に対し、１４日までに大規模な人員削減計画を提出するよう求めているためだ。

トランプ氏は教育省の廃止も主張しており、同省は一時帰休について同省の「最終ミッション」の一部だと説明した。マクマホン教育長官は声明で、これにより同省の効率性と説明責任が向上するとし、「米国の教育制度に偉大さを取り戻すための重大な一歩だ」と述べた。

職員２８００人を代表する労働組合は「過酷な削減」と闘うと表明した。

厚生省や社会保障局など他の政府機関ではトランプ氏の指示に従うため、早期退職プログラムを採用し、退職に同意した職員に税引き前で最大２万５０００ドルの一時金を支給する動きが出ている。

複数の連邦機関の人事専門家は、こうした早期退職プログラムは摩擦を抑えながら期限までにトランプ氏の要請に応えるための方法として採用されているとロイターに説明した。
