米財務長官「ＦＲＢは独立、だが失策も多い」クック氏解任を擁護

［アーリントン（米バージニア州）　１日　ロイター］ - ベセント米財務長官は１日、連邦準備理事会（ＦＲＢ）は独立性を維持すべきだとしつつも「多くの過ちを犯してきた」と述べ、住宅ローン不正疑惑を理由にクックＦＲＢ理事を解任したトランプ大統領の判断を擁護した。

ロイターのインタビューに答えた。

ベセント氏はＦＲＢがクック理事に対する疑惑について独立した調査を行っていないことは驚きだとした上で、疑惑が事実ならクック理事は解任または辞任が相当だとした。

クック氏を解任しようとする政権の取り組みは、トランプ大統領に理事会の過半数を任命する機会を与えようとする試みのように見えるかとの質問に対し、ベセント氏は「それとも、ＦＲＢの仕事を代わりにやらされているということか」と答えた。

その上で、ＦＲＢ理事会は地区連銀総裁も含まれた構成となっているため、大統領が理事会を「掌握する」ことはできないと述べた。

さらにベセント氏は、トランプ政権の行動によって市場が動揺しているという見方を否定。「Ｓ＆Ｐ５００指数は過去最高値を更新し、債券利回りも良好だ。つまり、まだ何も起きていないということだ」と述べた。
