トランプ氏、パキスタン軍トップと異例の会談核戦争阻止と主張

[ワシントン／イスラマバード／ニューデリー１８日ロイター] - トランプ米大統領は１８日、パキスタン軍のトップであるムニール陸軍元帥とホワイトハウスで会談した。米大統領がパキスタンの文民指導者を同席させずに同国軍のトップをホワイトハウスに招くのはこれが初めて。

トランプ氏は記者団にイラン問題について協議したことを明らかにした。また、印パ紛争終結におけるムニール氏の貢献に謝意を示した。前日に会談したインドのモディ首相にも同様に感謝の言葉を述べている。

「非常に賢明な２人があの戦争を継続しないと決めた。あれは核戦争になり得た」と語った。

「インドとパキスタンは激しく対立していた。しかも両国は核保有国だ。私がそれを止めた」と強調した。

ホワイトハウスのケリー報道官によると、印パの核戦争を阻止したとしてトランプ氏をノーベル平和賞に推薦するようムニール氏が呼びかけたことを受け、トランプ氏が同氏をホワイトハウスに招いた。

パキスタン軍は声明で、両氏は２時間にわたる会談で貿易、経済発展、暗号資産（仮想通貨）について協議し、イスラエルとイランの緊張についても意見交換したと発表した。「トランプ氏は長期的な戦略的利害の一致と共通の利益に基づき、パキスタンとの互恵的な貿易パートナーシップの構築に強い関心を示した」と述べた。

今回の会談は米国とパキスタンの関係にとって大きな前進を意味する。米国は中国への対抗策としてインドとの関係強化を図っていたため、両国の関係はこれまでおおむね停滞していた。
