米連邦職員解雇、ＦＤＡのマスク氏ニューラリンク審査担当者も対象

[１７日ロイター] - 米実業家イーロン・マスク氏の脳インプラント企業ニューラリンクの申請を審査していた米食品医薬品局（ＦＤＡ）職員が、「政府効率化省（ＤＯＧＥ）」による政府機関の広範な人員削減の一環として先週末に解雇されたことが、関係者２人の話で分かった。

関係者によると、ＦＤＡの神経・身体医療機器部門の約２０人が解雇の対象に含まれ、そのうち数人はニューラリンクを担当していた。同部門にはニューラリンクや他の脳インプラントメーカーによる臨床試験申請の審査担当者が含まれるという。

いずれの関係者も解雇された職員について、ニューラリンクの申請を担当していたことを理由に標的にされたとは考えていないと述べた。

関係者の１人によると、今回の解雇は他の政府機関と同様、医療機器申請を審査する科学者のうち試用期間中の職員が影響を受けた。

関係筋や外部専門家は、約２０人の解雇により、ニューラリンクを含むさまざまな医療機器申請を迅速かつ安全に処理する能力に支障が出るとの見方を示した。

ＦＤＡ、ホワイトハウス、マスク氏はコメント要請に応じていない。
