[ワシントン４日ロイター] - トランプ米大統領は４日、大統領令によって教育省を閉鎖したいとの考えを示した。同時に、議会と教員組合の賛同が必要だと認めた。

ホワイトハウス当局者は、教育長官に同省閉鎖に取り組むよう指示する大統領令を月内に発表する見通しを示した。９０日間かけて計画の概要を検討し、議会の意見を求めるという。

トランプ氏は「米国は世界のどの国よりも生徒１人当たりの支出が多い」とし、「州に学校を運営させたい」と記者団に述べた。

その上で、教育長官に指名したリンダ・マクマホン氏に同省閉鎖に取り組むよう指示したと明らかにした。同氏はまだ上院で承認されていない。

トランプ氏は大統領令のみで閉鎖したいとしたが、実際には議会が法案を可決する必要がある。

最大のハードルは上院とみられる。共和党は５３対４７で過半数を握っているが、閣僚級の省庁閉鎖のような重要法案の可決には６０票の賛成が必要となる。

トランプ氏は「議会と協力すると思う」と述べたほか、「反対しているのは教員組合だけのため、彼らと協力する必要がある」とも語った。
