米判事への脅迫増加、マスク氏ら批判の中 司法の独立に懸念
[ワシントン ５日 ロイター] - 実業家イーロン・マスク氏らがトランプ米政権による連邦政府機関縮小の取り組みを妨げる判事への批判を強める中、連邦保安局が判事に対し、脅威が異例の水準に高まっていると警告したことが分かった。複数の判事が明らかにした。
マスク氏や共和党議員のほか、トランプ大統領に近い他の関係者はここ数週間、政府機関を解体し、何万人もの職員を解雇しようとする政権の取り組みを遅らせる判決を下した判事の信用を失墜させたり、一部判事の弾劾を求めたりしている。
マスク氏は１月末以降、Ｘへの３０件以上の投稿で判事を「腐敗している」「過激」「邪悪」などと批判し、自身が主導する政府機関縮小を一部差し止めた判決を「司法の独裁」と皮肉った。
ロイターが複数地区の連邦判事１１人に行ったインタビューでは、ここ数週間に判事の身辺警護を巡る警戒が高まり、暴力的な脅迫も増加していることが分かった。
ある関係者によると、首都ワシントンの複数の連邦判事は自宅に匿名でピザが届けられた。法執行機関はこれについて、住所を知っていることを伝える脅迫の一種と解釈しているという。
専門家はこうした「口撃」や脅迫の増加について、米国の民主的な憲法秩序を支える司法の独立を危うくすると警鐘を鳴らす。
マスク氏はコメント要請に応じていない。
ホワイトハウスのフィールズ報道官はマスク氏の発言について、個人的な立場で行っているとしたほか、判事弾劾の是非についてホワイトハウスはいかなる立場も取っていないと説明した。その上で「判事に対する脅迫は容認できず、大統領はそうした行為を非難する」と述べた。
