オープンAI、半導体内製化へ 数カ月内に設計データ確定=関係筋
オープンAIとTSMCはコメントを控えた。
オープンAIが、2026年にTSMCで自社開発の半導体を大量生産するという目標の達成に向けて順調に進んでいることが明らかになった。設計データをファウンドリーに送る「テープアウト」と呼ばれる工程は通常、数千万ドルの費用がかかり、製造には約6か月を要する。最初のテープアウトが順調に進めば、年内に試験することも可能。ただ問題が見つかればテープアウトを繰り返すことになる。
関係者によると、オープンAIでは、トレーニングに重点を置いたこの半導体を、他の半導体メーカーとの交渉力を強化する戦略的ツールと位置付けている。初代製品の後、さらに改良を重ね、より幅広い機能を備えた、より高度なプロセッサを開発する予定という。
